Site Assembly and Raising

After the components of your timber frame have been cut, prefit and finished, it is prepared for site assembly.  Your frame is carefully labeled, bundled then shipped to the site in synchronization with the construction schedule.

Raising Options

Our crew can raise the frame on-site.  If you prefer, we can provide on-site advisory services to assist your General Contractor and his crew while they perform the frame assembly and raising.  You can select the option that best fits your project and the recommendations of your General Contractor.

What to Expect on Raising Day

The raising of your timber frame is an event not to be missed.  It is nothing short of miraculous to see how quickly a home takes shape from a simple pile of timbers.  It can create quite an emotional experience for all involved.

The day will begin with a safety meeting and a lot of organization and preparation as equipment is prepared, timbers are sorted into positions and many timbers assembled into larger components in preparation for the crane.   Scaffholding and ladders will be put into place.  Bolsters will be attached to the sub-floor to guide posts into position.  Some frame assemblies will be strengthened with temporary braces or strong-backs to protect them as they are raised from a horizontal to the vertical position for which they're designed.  Bents and wall sections are plumbed, braced and attached to the sub-floor.  Girts connect bents to created strong bays between the frame sections.  Finally purlins, rafters and plates form a roof system.  Along the way, wooden pegs will be driven home to fasten components together and temporary bracing will be removed.

Depending on the size of your structure the frame may be assembled in a matter of days.  A similar amount of time may be required for the installation of SIP roof and wall panels if you've chosen to employ them.

When the frame is up it is tradition to nail a green fir bough to your roof peak to express a symbolic thank you to the forests and reverence for the wood.
