Crafting the Timber Frame
Your frame or timber elements follow a process from timber selection through layout, checking, cutting, pre-fit and finishing. Then they are labeled and carefully packaged for shipping to the site.

Start With the Right Wood
We began with good guidance. During the design phase we came to understand what attracted you to timber frame and what it is that you want to see, feel and experience every day as you walk through this home. Somewhere between your project and Mother Nature there is perfect wood for this story. Together we’ve chosen the right species and wood source, so the crafting begins.
Select and Orient the Timbers
We start by selecting and orienting timbers. Only by knowing where each and every timber will be in the final structure can we best select and orient your timbers. So we enter this stage well versed in your plan. This wood is natural and organic, each face with different characteristics. With your 3-D plan in mind and the timbers before us, we seek to maximize beauty as we select timbers and orient them before any cutting is considered.
Lay-out and Cut Joinery
After selection and orientation, we lay-out and cut our joinery with the finest precision before pre-fitting key timbers and proceeding to finishing. It's not unusual to find very large portions of a structure pre-fit in our shop environment at this stage.
Embellish and Prepare for Finishing
At the finishing stage we chamfer timbers according to the design and complete any embellishments such as carving then prepare the wood for its surface finish.
