Finishes

We can provide a finished timber frame depending on your requirements.

Conditioning and Final Finishing

We always seal exposed end-grain during the fabrication process to reduce checking. We also use a wood conditioner to prepare your timbers for their final finish.

The wood conditioner will also protect the timbers during assembly and raising on site.

Some clients prefer to have a final finish applied prior to raising the timber frame. For interior surfaces, we favor natural finishes that are oil based and use natural hardeners from organic sources. These are usually linseed based with citrus oil hardeners. These products provide a beautiful natural finish, they are easy to touch up and are gentle on indoor air quality.

Embellishments

You may prefer a round-over or chamfered edge on their timbers. Your frame may feature elements that would look good with a pendant. Whatever the design calls for, we'll complete these embellishments before the timbers are prepared for finishing.

Carving

There are times when a client seeks to personalize their timber frame. One of the timeless choices is a unique carving integrated to the frame of your house. Whether it is something as simple as the year the frame was built or somethimg more creative, we can work with you to put your personal stamp on the timbers that make up your home.
