Working with a General Contractor
We work with the General Contractor you choose as a specialized sub-trade.
Wild Horse Timberworks does not act as a General Contractor. We will provide the timber frame expertise your General needs to complete a successful project.
Collaborating with your General Contractor
We will synchronize our work with your General Contractor. When it comes to raising the timber frame structure, we can send our crew or we can send an advisor to work with your General Contractor and his crew on-site.
Selecting a General Contractor
Contrary to popular belief, it is not necessary that you choose a General Contractor with extensive timber frame experience. There are more important factors in your selection of a General Contractor.
We recommend the following considerations:
- Choose a contractor that you consider trustworthy.
- Choose a contractor that you feel you can communicate well with.
- Choose a contractor with good local knowlege.
The Importance of Local Knowledge
Timber framing is a specialized discipline. Most of the work on a timber frame is done in a shop environment far from the building site. A good timber framer has strong relationships with mills that supply the very special materials required for timber frame projects. Most homeowners will not find a timber framer with such qualifications located directly in their community. When selecting a timber framer, specialized knowledge is more important than location because most of the work is done off-site.
The same cannot be said about General Contractors, their work is done on the site. We believe you should select a General Contractor from your local community. Local knowledge and relationships with both suppliers and tradespeople are more important than previous timberframe knowledge in the selection of a General Contractor. We'll work with the general contractor you select to provide the timber frame expertise required to complete a successful project.
