FSC Certified Wood

The Forest Stewardship Council has developed a set of Principles and Criteria for forest management that is applicable to all FSC-certified forests throughout the world.

FSC principles are strict and closely monitored.  They ensure that natural forests are conserved, that endangered species and their natural habitats are protected and that forest workers and forest-dependent communities are respected.  The FSC also has a vigorous chain of custody, tracking timber from the forest to the end user.  The trademark guarantees that the forest of origin has been independently inspected and evaluated to comply with the internationally agreed set of strict environmental, social and economic standards.

It is now relatively easy to find FSC certified wood.  Even your local Home Depot may carry some. ''There are over 2000 FSC certified companies worldwide.  Over 45 million hectares of forest have been certified in 69 countries across 5 continents''.  Source: The Good Wood Guide
